RhinoBulk is the name of Trans Ocean’s market-leading flexitank. Designed and engineered entirely in-house by our team of experts, and manufactured in one of our three factories located in Malaysia, China and South Africa.
Our RhinoBulk flexitank is made from linear low density Polyethylene. It is a 1.0mm thick single layer flexitank.
All RhinoBulk flexitank materials are fully recyclable.
Commodities must be non-hazardous liquids. They must also be pumpable at ambient temperatures, or at an elevated temperature (below 60°c).
Products typically transported by flexitank include chemicals (including organic and inorganic chemicals, industrial oils, surfactants, detergents, specialty chemicals, fertilizers, pesticides, etc), pharmaceuticals (soaps, cosmetics, diagnostics, vitamins, etc) and food and beverages (wine, food concentrates and additives, fruit juices, edible oils, etc)
Dependent on the type of pump used and the viscosity of the product, a 24,000 litre flexitank can be loaded in approximately 45 minutes.

Trans Ocean’s RhinoBulk flexitank is available in capacities of 10,000 litres (2641 US Gallons) to 24,000 litres (6340 US Gallons), which can represent more than double the capacity of pre-packaged cargo.
We also take the Specific Gravity of the product into consideration when deciding on what tank size to use:
- 24 000kg if the specific gravity >1, or
- 24 000 litres (6340 US Gallons) if the specific gravity <1
(The container is limited to these volumes in order to comply with transport limitations and regulations.)
Originally Trans Ocean’s flexitanks were re-usable tanks, made of nitrile rubber. We operated cleaning, maintenance and return processes throughout the world and established our global network.
A clear demand from our customers was a disposable, single-use flexitank, which we developed to a create a ‘one-way cost system’. Our network continues to support us in providing local logistics services.
Through our continual research we have developed a unique, specialist blend of linear low density polyethylene, providing an industry leading blend of strength and durability, suitable for foodgrade and industrial applications.
Our flexitanks can be used as a temporary storage system at origin or destination, aiding Just in Time deliveries and additional storage capacity for commodity based products.
Costs can be significantly less than ISO tank or storage tank alternatives.

Flexitanks enable you to ship more for less, when compared to other forms of bulk liquid shipping. The below graphics illustrates the number of containers and man hours required to transport 100,000 litres of product using different bulk modes.

Moving containers by rail can be a more cost effective and environmentally sound method of transporting bulk liquids, so has clear advantages for some shippers.
Thankfully, our RhinoBulk flexitank has undergone extensive testing for rail movements. The tank is designed to offer high energy absorption whether it is moving by rail, sea or truck.

Yes, each of our three manufacturing plants are fully certified for ISO 9001:2008 and ISO 22000.
Yes, our flexitanks have full Halal certification (available on request) and are suitable for Halal goods.
Yes, our flexitanks have full Kosher certification (documentation available on request), and are suitable for Kosher goods.
For any flexitank loading that must be performed under sterile/asceptic conditions, we can provide a solution to ensure that our flexitank is surgically sterile and totally free of any contaminants, bacteria or pathogenic microorganisms.
Prior to loading, our flexitank products can be sterilized using gamma radiation. Sterilizing flexitanks products by Gamma irradiation is a sophisticated process requiring extensive knowledge and expertise. We work with a third party specialist to ensure the process is managed under laboratory conditions.
Flexitanks (with the valve in place and closed) are subjected to a dose of 15 Kgys (kilo Grays). Sterilisation using gamma irradiation will completely remove all bacteria and contaminants.
