" 60% of customers wanted companies to provide more information at the point of sale on the effects of their products on the climate and 70% wanted climate change claims by businesses to be assessed and verified by independent third parties. "

Why not consider...

Why not consider the environmental & economical benefits of bulk shipping? Trans Ocean recognise that in our day to day operations we have a direct or indirect impact on the environment and we wish to minimise the potentially harmful effects of such activity wherever and whenever possible.

" 61% of companies expect the issues associated with climate change to boost profits – if managed well. "

(McKinsey Global Survey, December 2007)

Minimise environmental impact by shipping in bulk

If your product is packaged closer to destination, this will potentially lead to less damage

By packaging at destination you can maintain quality and have the advantage of potentially responding to customers' orders quicker with more flexibilty.

Product materials are made from the same recycling group, in category 4, making it easier to dispose of.

Shipping greater volume and lower mass - representing more than double the capacity of pre-packaged cargo.

Cutting transportation costs per litre shipped and in some cases reducing carbon emissions by up to 50%.

In addition, there are reductions of between 40-50% in Nitrogen Oxide (NOx) and Sulphur Dioxide (SO2) compared to pre-packed goods.

Key environmental initiatives around the world...

As part of the Hillebrand Group we aim to synergise our environmental objectives and work together to create sound environmental policies, contributing to our competitive strength which will benefit our customers and employees.

Use of rail networks as opposed to road: Our key rail development is UK's 'Wine Train' – which removes around 6000 HGV movements from the UK's heavily congested motorways, reduces HGV road miles by 2m km and reduces carbon emissions by 1.7 billion gms CO2 per annum. Around 2m bottles of wine are moved every week by the Hillebrand Group on 'The Wine Train', over 100 million bottles p.a.

Short Sea Shipping: Wherever practicable, we are using feeder services into smaller regional ports, as close as possible to the final delivery point. Utilising feeder options again serves in minimising ‘road miles' and improving service via less congested ports.

Inland waterways: Where possible, we use barges and inland canal routes to cut down on road miles.

Green haulage procurement: Where possible and competitive we will seek to use low-emission road transport (in Europe, vehicles of EUR CAT 4 or 5).
